The Baltimore Mineral Society, founded in 1951 for the study of Microminerals, has established a “Micromounters’ Hall of Fame” to honor those micromounters who have made significant contributions to the hobby. Normally two candidates are elected each year, first by the Executive Board and secondly by living members of the Hall of Fame for induction the following year. There is a modern category and an old-timers category, the latter limited primarily to micromounters active before 1960, and especially before 1890. Any micromounter may submit a name for consideration to the secretary of the Baltimore Mineral Society with a letter of support for the proposed candidate. An award in the form of a plaque is presented to the recipients at the Society’s annual Baltimore Micromount Symposium in late September. At that time there is also a display of memorabilia and items belonging to or pertinent to present and past members of the Hall of Fame. This is an especially valuable collection as it serves as a museum and preserves a part of the history of micromounting.
